Happy Earth Day to you and yours! Let’s get started with some fun facts about one of this weeks share items, the Fava Bean.
The Fava bean was originally the only bean under cultivation throughout Europe until landing in the Americas. Can you imagine the only legume in all of Europe? The beans are notorious throughout history as having aphrodisiac powers. In fact, St. Jerome forbade nuns to eat them in the 1500’s, due to their sultry reputation. Fava Beans are noted to have up to 0.5 % wt L-dopa, a precursor to dopamine. Dopamine is a well known neurotransmitter associated with the pleasure and reward center of the brain.
And now to cool you down, here are two recipes for Earth Day celebration cocktails, using herbs from your share. For those of you gifted with Mountain Mint let’s try a Mint Ginger Margarita, and for you out there with Parsley in your box, how about a Lemon Parsely Cooler?
